Additional learning support
Our school supports students with disability and additional learning needs so they can fully participate in school life. Support is available at any stage, and a formal diagnosis is not required for your child to receive help in the classroom.
Support that fits your child's needs
At Fingal Head, we understand that some students need extra support to feel confident and achieve their best. We work in partnership with families — and with students themselves where appropriate — to create plans and adjustments that suit each child’s individual needs.
Support at our school can include:
- teachers and support staff working together with families to plan and monitor progress
- specialist help for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- enrichment and tailored programs for high potential and gifted learners
- small group tutoring with a focus on literacy and numeracy
- regular check-ins to review progress and update supports
We also provide adjustments to help students succeed, such as:
- accessible classrooms and assistive technology
- extra resources or adapted lessons with simpler content or different focuses
- changes to assessment tasks, such as more time, simpler language, rest breaks, or alternative formats like oral presentations
We identify when a student may need support by:
- teachers noticing changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing assessment results and progress over time
- parents and carers raising concerns or asking for extra help
At Fingal Head, every student’s growth matters — and we make sure that support is available whenever it’s needed.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
